A 20’s Inspired Rembo Styling Dress + Antique Jewellery for a Rustic Oxfordshire Barn Wedding
Oh, I do love an era inspired bride (it’s no secret that I love fashion history and all things vintage), and today’s lovely one takes her cue from the beauty and romance of the 1920s.
I’m also really struck by the wonderful images captured by the couple’s photographer, too – making exquisite use of the dramatic autumn light on the day. Let’s meet our couple then and get started! Amy, a freelance research analyst, and Tom, an account manager, were married on the 24 September, which also happens to be Amy’s birthday!

They celebrated their day at Lains Barn in rural Oxfordshire. When the couple first saw the venue, it blew them away, and Amy grew up in county, so it felt fitting to be married there, too.
“We love the Oxfordshire countryside, and moved there from London a week before the wedding (!), so much of the wedding was centred around us starting our new life in the country, and we used all local suppliers to reflect that.”
Amy’s dress was a romantic, soft chiffon, 1920s inspired design by Rembo Styling, with an elegant dropped waist, and a ruffled neckline, with just a hint of sparkle. Amy discovered her beautiful gown at London boutique, Angelica Bridal.
“My dress and jewellery were vintage in look and feel, and the dress, though new, was a nod to the 1920s. I felt like me, and the dress had a flowing, angelic feel.”
“My shoes were from Dune London – a pair I already had, and had worn in!”
Tom looked smart in a navy blue suit, paired with a classic white shirt, and burgundy tie, from Ted Baker, which he wore with brogues, and mother of pearl cufflinks.
Amy was accompanied down the aisle by her mum, and the ceremony was conducted by family member, Mark Walters.
“We met at work, and were engaged a year later, and married a year after that. We met in Scotland doing the Three Peaks Challenge with our company, raising money for the Prince’s Trust.”
These are such touching images from Amy and Tom’s ceremony, capturing all of the beautiful moments shared, by fine art photographer, Maureen du Preez, who did a remarkable job throughout the whole day.
Alongside their vows, Amy and Tom also chose to give each other rings, chosen at Elizabeth Rose Antiques in London.
“Our rings were all vintage. My rings were Edwardian and Georgian antiques, chosen together before our engagement.”
Following the ceremony, lots of pretty and colourful dried flower petal confetti was thrown, whilst drinks and delicious canapes were enjoyed outside on the lawn, with live music from Cooper Black – a local band, and friends of Amy’s mum.
Amy wore fresh flowers in her hair, picked from her mum’s garden, and styled by family hair stylist, Denise (sadly no further details supplied).
Amy made her bridesmaids a Pinterest mood board with a soft and muted autumnal colour palette with which to inspire them, and they chose their own dresses accordingly. I love the variety of textures in the different chiffon, lace and embellishment.
The bridesmaids wore freshly picked flowers in their hair, and together with Amy, they carried magnificent, wild and natural bouquets from Green & Gorgeous.
Amy and Tom’s lovely colour palette, reflecting the faded beauty of the season, is shown to spectacular effect in these flowers, with berries and grasses, meadow blooms and greenery, alongside an array of roses.
“They were all organically grown flowers in Oxfordshire. They do a great ‘buckets and bouquets’ deal, where you have your bouquets tied by them, but choose your flowers for tables, etc. a week before and they mix and match them.”
Amy and Tom made their own on-the-day stationery, using stamps from The English Stamp Company, including a table plan inside a vintage style frame, with pressed flowers, and place settings stamped onto luggage tags.
The timber beams of the restored Lains Barn were beautifully decorated, with twinkling fairylights, flowing drapery hanging from the ceiling and down the walls, and lots of fresh flowers.
Inside the barn, the brilliantly wonky and weathered old beams were strung with garlands, lights and Polaroid photos of Amy and Tom, and a selfie station with chalkboard speech bubbles, ready for personalisation, and Instax cameras, were set up for guests to enjoy.
Favours were individually wrapped, handmade bone china candle holders, by Tom’s aunt, and table centrepieces were rustic sliced logs holding lanterns, and vases of flowers from Green & Gorgeous, arranged by Amy’s mum and her friend.
Everyone sat down to a wonderful wedding breakfast cooked by the team at Barton House, and to follow, their were cupcakes, decorated with edible flowers (and topped with three peaks – a nod to how Amy and Tom met!) by the Cupcake Baker, based in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.
“I liked the homemade taste to the cakes. Cathy makes them out of her country house kitchen, and you can sense that. Great attention to detail, with edible organic flowers as decoration.”
There was such a magical atmosphere as the daylight faded and evening began. The barn glowed in the twilight, and Amy and Tom sourced personalised paper lanterns, too.
In the evening, there was also a tasty cheese tower, decorated with a jewel-like variety of fresh fruit, supplied by the Cotswold Cheese Company.
They took to the dancefloor for a sweet first dance together, to Florence and the Machine’s Stand By Me, and band Cooper Black played on into the night.
Words of Wedded Wisdom
“I wanted everything to feel real, natural and authentic – not overly glamorous, as we’re a relaxed couple, and we wanted people to relax and be themselves on the day.”
Amy and Tom, thank you so much for this fantastic glimpse into your enchanting rural wedding. Special thanks also go to photographer Maureen du Preez for her absolutely wonderful images, too. We’ve featured Maureen’s work before on our pages, and you can take a look, right here.
